🗓️ Moodle 4.5 – The May release is built on Moodle 4.5 LTS, introducing a redesigned architecture for Artificial Intelligence.
✨ Moodle AI Subsystem: A core API that lets you plug in AI services (e.g. OpenAI, Azure AI) to generate and summarise course content.
✏️ TinyMCE as default: Replaces Atto. Ships with an in-browser Screen Recorder (max 120 seconds).
📦 Core H5P tool: The separate H5P plugin will be phased out; all new content is created via the new core H5P tool.
📂 Course Subsections: Lets teachers group topics or activities into clear sub-units – ideal for large courses.
🧭 New “Custom Sections” course format: Enables a more logical, visually tidy course structure.
📐 Improved course page: Easier content management: indentation, bulk-edit actions and a cleaner view.

The new AI Subsystem lets you connect external AI services to Moodle. Teachers can generate text, images and summaries directly in course pages. Administrators decide where and how AI is available. Providers supported at launch include OpenAI and Azure AI.
TinyMCE is now the default text editor in Maisteri LMS. A built-in Screen Recorder lets you capture up to two-minute videos straight from the browser – no extra plugins required.
Maisteri LMS moves to Moodle’s core H5P activity. The old plugin will be retired gradually. New H5P content can only be created via the Content bank; existing activities continue to work after the upgrade.
More than 30 in-house plugins were updated. Highlights:
Scheduler (mod_scheduler) → Korvattu Organisoija-lisäosalla – poistuu kokonaan 12/2025.
Legacy Learning Diary (mod_learningdiary) → Migrate to new learning diary (mmlearningdiary)
Grid Catalogue block (block_mmgridcatalogue) → No new instances after 05/2025; removed by 2026
